THE WATCHMAN
Immoral Virtue, #3
Evil is found when evil is sought.
For when those in authority neglect to reprove sin, then very often the good are punished with the wicked.” - Heinrick Kramer, 1486, The Malleus Maleficarum
For yielding to the proud tears of an accused witch, The Watchman’s soul may have been blackened by evil. To prove himself unmarked, his body free of the witch’s branding, he must stand naked before all and submit to the governor’s thorough and shameful examination.
Though Giles Scott would resist the governor’s practiced and patient touch, only complete abandon might prove his innocence. And since the witch cannot feel, only Giles’ arousal can spare his neck from the noose. And so, he surrenders.
Yet screams from another chamber – perhaps pained, perhaps pleasured – awaken memories from Giles’ dark, torturous past, and the governor’s touch no longer teases but stings... much like the punishing bite of a whip against the flesh of THE WATCHMAN

The Immoral Virtue Series: The Mark, The Accused & The Watchman. It was the subject of this series, the Salem Witch Trials that drew me to read this exciting author. It was a time in history where fear and religious zealotry spit through these communities the world over. This dark, intricate story has Governor Jameson receiving the unenviable task of examining the collection of women for the mark of the Beast. For a woman who has lain with Satan would carry his mark upon her body and so deemed a witch. In an erotic twist, Giles, the governor’s faithful friend and ever diligent Watchman has admitted laying with an accused, Elizabeth. Though Jameson does not want to put Giles through the shame of examination, bringing him to pleasure and then withholding it, he must. What follows is an intricately woven tale of honor and friendship, pride and arrogance where love truly does conquer all. The BDSM element within the sex/examination scenes is so skillfully crafted, I was hanging on the edge of my seat and the ending so incredibly gratifying I growled out a righteous, ‘yeah’! This series should be read in order; The Mark, The Accused & The Watchman and you should be sitting near a fan to keep yourself cool for this hot, hot, read. This is a Petrarch Must Read!Product details

The Watchman Immoral Virtue Book 3 edition by Arla Dahl Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
This final episode of the trilogy packs an enormous emotional wallop.
I was waiting for the next book by Arla Dahl for what seemed like forever!!! it was a quick read which is both good and bad. I couldn't put it down which is good but sad that it ended so quickly...wished it would go on and on. Ms. Dahl's research into this period helped you feel as if you were there, the intensity of the sexual scenes make you wish you WERE! Read it NOW! I don't want to give any of the story away so all I will say is, it will spin you into another world!
The final book has arrived! It's been worth the wait.
As with the first two of the trilogy, Arla Dahl keeps the reader writhing with anticipation, much like the Governor does to the accused.
The Watchman's story isn't what I expected, however the more I learned about him, the more enticing he became.
When all hope seems lost for the accused, the author provides a sensually satisfying ending to a long night of decadence.
If you haven't read any of this series, consider yourself lucky because now you have all three books at your fingertips.
I'm looking forward to what Arla comes up with next.
Spoiler Ahead This was book 3 in the "Immoral Virtue" series. This book picks up were the Accused left off. The Watchman and the Governor are friends and the governor doesn't want to believe his friend might be marked. During the examination the Governor uncovers a dark secret that makes him question his own actions. This book had a lot of hot dark BDSM scenes as well well as some good m/m action. I also loved the scenes between Giles and Elizabeth. This book was a good end to this series. This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling. I am looking forward to reading more from this author.
4 Stars
I’m going to start this review at the end because the way this book ends is FAN-FREAKIN-TASTIC. After reading the first two books in the series, The Mark and The Accused, I was curious as to how this series would end. Would Governor Jameson declare someone a witch? Or, would he find them all innocent? Never in my wildest theories, though, did I ever think it would end the way it did.
Picking up right where The Accused left off, Jameson, with Abigail’s help, has but a few hours left to test the accused that remain, Mercy, Giles and Elizabeth. The new day approaches and with it Reverend John Cotton and the hangman's noose for those declared a witch.
The scenes with Mercy are chock full of S/M. Impact play (with nettle use), predicament bondage, clamps, orgasm control, all are in play here. While it felt like their time with Mercy ran a little overlong, it was incredibly hot and full of sexual tension given Abigail’s presence.
The scenes with Giles and Elizabeth, by contrast, were far more emotional. There is some M/m play here, and, to be honest, I wish those scenes would have been lengthened, as the interplay between Jameson and Giles was intensely interesting to me.
Overall, I love this series and this book. As I’ve said before, it’s a truly unique erotic take on the witch trial era and I’m sad to see it finish. But, with an ending like that, it went out with a bang.
*I received a copy of this book from the author, through the BDSM group TPE bar, in exchange for an honest review.*
Three accused, including the strong and steadfast watchman, must submit to the governor’s most thorough examination to prove their innocence before the hangman comes at dawn. Yet, their varied resistance as the governor seeks to rouse their passions tests his own control and purity of intention. Surely there is evil among them, and a witch will indeed be found in this satisfying conclusion to Dahl’s Immoral Virtue trilogy.
OK I read Arla’s first two books in this series and have been waiting for Book 3! The third segment picked up right where the last one ended BUT I did not expect the story to take the path it did.
The Watchman is the one that’s examined for the devil’s mark in this book so there’s some male on male action…not something I usually go for but I have to say… those scenes were pretty hot.
Anyway, the story kept me involved because, the Watchman and the Governor are friends and the governor doesn't want to believe his friend might be marked. During the examination the Governor uncovers a dark secret that makes him question his own actions. This was both compelling and moving….AND sexy. The end surprised me but made perfect sense.
There is a character from Book 2 that is involved in some of the examination scenes and those pushed the envelope a bit for me. Still, I highly recommend this book, and the entire series. It is definitely for the more open-minded but discriminating reader.
